Powersprings/Ibexactors

m_PowerspringsDesigned to harness the power of elemental materials, the Ibexactor is a high strength tension/extension spring manufactured from a natural rubber core enclosed in braided inner and outer covers.

  • Exceptional load - weight ratio
  • Virtually no restriction on length
  • Outstanding flexibility
  • Tested beyond 5,000,000 cycles
  • Terminations to suit virtually any application
  • Non magnetic
  • Chemical resistance
  • Wide temperature service range
  • Available in endless ring applications
  • Braided fibre sheathing options add colour and performance benefits

Versatile Terminations

m_Powersprings_2Essential to the versatility of Ibexactors are its patented termination options. Ibexactor is assembled by   crimping its cord into a metal fitting. The exposed rubber core ends then open out exposing longitudinal spaces between the rubber strands.  Epoxy is injected into the termination and penetrates these spaces to form a solid ‘plug’. The fitting is completed with a metal disc.  This crimped region isolates the active cord from the bonded region increasing fatigue life by removing the main stress raiser present in other termination methods.

The bonding process allows the full potential of the spring to be realised when it is used within its normal operating parameters.  In external tests carried out by the Institute of Spring Technology, in excess of 5,000,000 load cycles had been achieved.

A range of steel and aluminium end fittings are used as standard, but customised end options can be fitted to meet application demands.  Additionally for special requirements, to meet British Standard 3F70:1991 for example, or when high performance is required, different fibre sheathing cover materials can be used.

Ibexactor delivers exceptional power. A standard 32mm product features an impressive 3.5kN @ 90%  elongation.

Specifying Ibexactors

The Ibexactor is available in six diameters. See BS 3F70:1991

12.5mm                   16.0mm                  19.0mm                  22.0mm                  26.0mm                  32.0mm

At each of these diameters length are available from 100mm to 100m with a length tolerance of -/+ 1%.  Ibexactor can be specified in a similar way to a steel extension spring.  A typical specification chart is shown in the table below.  The load at any extension can be calculated using the formula:

Load = S x E + F0  (where S = spring rate, E = % extension and F0 = initial tension)
