Shock Cord - British Standard

Ibex Marina Ropes manufacture British Standard Shock Cords which are available in multi various materials, these bespoke cords are all individually tested to meet specification. With main uses in the Aerospace and Military industries ‘BS’ Shock cord is produced to two specs; BS 3F70:1991 and BS 3F71:1991.

3F 70:1991 (Heavy Duty)

Heavy duty Shock Cord originally manufactured from 5mm to 26mm; Ibex Marinas technical team have extrapolated the specification to allow us to produce upto 32mm diameter.

This cord is primarily used in ‘Powersprings’ and ‘SP’ assemblies but recent enquiries have been from Subsea companies using it in Steamers and Remote Operated Vehicles.

3F 71:1991 (Light Duty)

Light duty Shock Cord originally manufactured from 3mm to 11mm; Ibex Marinas technical team have extrapolated the specification to allow us to produce upto 25mm diameter.

This cord is primarily used in the Aerospace industry as a shock absorber but recent enquiries have led to the extrapolation with Shock Cord being used in crane and tow systems where snatch loads or "elastic muscle" is needed.
